I was on a Fall service for a furnace in Chanhassen MN, when I noticed their water heater leaking water. The home owner had no idea. If you own a water heater over 15 years old, it’s a good idea to check it every now and then. And if you notice water under it, more than likely there’s a crack in the tank, and it should be replaced.
It’s worth noting that a leaking water heater can indicate any number of several problems. A crack is very likely in my experience, and it’s also possible that there are loose valves or a corroded water tank. Despite all these possibilities, it’s also possible that the water pooling below your water heater is simply a result of condensation, and has nothing to do with a leak.
